On January 1, 2018, I committed to creating the habit of journaling each morning in Habits & Lifestyles open Facebook group for 3-minutes per day.

Low and behold, I have been successful with using journaling as a catalyst for my healthier habits.

Each month habits and lifestyles focuses on one of our 7-lifestyle areas; which includes:

Regimental Habits Have Benefits! A Candid Conversation Between Girlfriends

Picture this.

One day, I am at work  and I received a text from a friend. It read, “Hey girl, I thought I’d share how including habits into my daily routine and your business concept has helped me!

I created Habits & Lifestyles to support me in self-love, healing, and Creating The Life I Want.

I didn’t realize the effects my childhood abuse had on me, until I grew older. I was a “functioning victim!” I was able to marry and parent my children. However, I wasn’t healthy.

I lacked emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, nutritional, and relationship intelligence. I lacked all 3 of the “selfs”. I didn’t have self-esteem, self-worth, or self-confidence.

Although, I had a “fairy-tale” marriage, my personal lacks could not be  filled by another person. Eventually my marriage failed.

After my divorce I jumped into school, “parenting,” and partying. Parenting is in parentheses because I am sure I could have been a better parent if I loved me. I religiously went to school for 10 years; earning a Master’s Degree and currently 2 classes away from completing my second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I thought partying and filling my time with meaningless relationships would fill the void. Needless to say, they didn’t. 

One day, I decided enough was enough. I needed healing, wholeness, and all 3 of the “selfs”; self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. I sat on my bed and thought about successful people. What did they do differently? They made sacrifices, committed, believe in self, and created daily habits that aligned with their goals.

In that moment, I knew my habits would be key to Creating The Life I Wanted. It wasn’t enough for me to create habits. I needed to be intentional and I created healthier habits in 5-lifestyle areas. The lifestyles areas were; faith, physical, nutrition, financial, and relationships. As Habits & Lifestyles progressed I added two additional lifestyle areas; travel and pleasure (balance) for a total of 7-lifestyle areas.

After I created healthier habits for myself, I began to share my knowledge with friends. I shared small things such as; start a journal, go to bed earlier, wake-up earlier, spend quality time with God and self. When I first started my business, a few friends applied my tips and some allowed me to coach them . The end results were priceless.

My TIP to you as you venture on your journey of creating and maintaining healthier habits is, everything start with awareness. Habits are psychological NOT physical.

Creating a habit involves doing the same thing each day; preferably at the same time and location. I know, it sounds tedious. However, it can be done!

Each week will work through Habits & Lifestyles’ effective 6-step formula which supports you in Creating & Maintaining Healthier Habits! (Weeks 2-4 are used to discover self; through awareness activities, exercises, and questions).

Week 1: Welcome. We will learn more about Habits & Lifestyles, the 66-day jump start program, expectations, technology, and learn more about each other.

Week 2: Become Aware of Self. Before we begin our journey of creating and maintain healthier habits. We must become aware of self. We will learn more about “who we are” beyond the titles so that we can discover self and goals.

Week 3: Become Aware of Self (Continued). Before we begin our journey of creating and maintain healthier habits. We must become aware of self. We will learn more about “who we are” beyond the titles so that we can discover self and goals.

Week 4: Become Aware of Current Habits. Again, before we begin our journey of creating and maintain healthier habits. We must become aware of current habits. We will track our current habits so that we can discover the usage of our time.

Week 5: Create The Healthier Habit. Using the information discovered in the previous weeks we will create a healthier habit that aligns with our overall goal.

Week 6: Track Your Healthier Habits. We will learn the benefits of tracking daily habits.  Tracking is an important tool to achieve goals, create, and maintain healthier habits.

Week 7: Measure Your Healthier Habits. We will discuss the importance of showing-up 100% to do the “Worth It Work!” Along, with ways to celebrate small wins.

Week 8: Adjust Your Healthier Habits. We will define; too easy, too hard, and just right. We will learn how to use adjusting as a method to move closer to the goal.

Week 9: Get “Unstuck”. We will create list, mantras, and go-to activities that we will use before we “tap-out” on creating healthier habits and achieving the goal.

Week 10: Hello Healthier Person! We will review, celebrate our hard-work, and finalize a plan to continue creating and maintaining healthier habits.

Healthier is sustainable. Perfection is impossible!

I took a trip quick trip to California with a dear friend. I didn’t know how my trip would effect my habits and routine.
 
Check out what I learned below!
 
Things I learned:
 
1. It starts with the mind!-I wasn’t able to eat “healthier” for various reasons. I had the “when in Rome” mentality and I didn’t have access to small meals (Although, I could have created access). On average we ate one big meal per day.
 
2. I wake up early for a reason-I incorporate the bulk of my healthier habits early in the morning, while I am alone (journaling, prayer, exercise, send emails, check bank account, etc.) or else I feel pressured and rushed. Then I won’t do anything but, hang out.
 
3. My habits are my habits-I’ve came a long way. Invest in yourself for 66-days. Do the same thing day in and day out; at the same time each day for 66-days and create habits that align with your goals.
 
4. I am my only excuse.
 
5. Healthier is sustainable. Perfection is impossible!

Habits & Lifestyles Saves Lives

I held a “mock” informational session at Ocotillo library because I needed to work through the kinks in my curriculum.

I rarely share my story.

18 year old me

The truth is, I view my past as my past. Things that I’ve experienced shaped me into the person that I am today. However, if I reflect, I realize that not only did I survive, but I am WINNING.

As a child I was sexually abused by 3 different people over the period of a few years (I may or may not share more later). Nevertheless, that event lead to self-doubt and other toxic behaviors, that I’d struggled with for many years. I was in my early 30’s when I officially became tired of being tired.

**(BTW. Being sexually abused isn’t the only thing that leads people to being unhealthy, depressed, or toxic adults. #SelfCheck)**

Habits & Lifestyles was a concept that was created in 2015 out of necessity. I created Habits & Lifestyles to save my life. I launched Habits & Lifestyles in November of 2016 (the same day I was supposed to have my 1st wedding to my 2nd husband).

Top 9 Things I Learned While Creating The Life I Want

I created Habits & Lifestyles out of necessity. At one point in my life, things weren’t going well. I had dreams and desires that went unmet for years.
One day I realized life was passing me by, I wasn’t living. Something needed to change. I decided to start living, going after goals and Create The Life I Want.

The process wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work. I failed more than once but kept moving forward. There were times when I thought; things would never get right. There were times when I “KNEW” I had it right, but I was wrong. However, throughout my journey, I learned valuable lessons.

The 09 Lessons I Learned

1. Be Obedient-As parents we do what is right for our children. We know when they are ready to move forward and when they should be “still.” We as parents are aware of genuine behaviors and none genuine behaviors. As parents, we only want the best for our children. The best is what God wants for us. The only difference is, God is the ultimate parent.  It is not our job to figure out God’s plans for our life. It is our job to be OBEDIENT.

2. Be True To Yourself-One of the fastest routes to self-hate and depression is pretending to be someone else. When you worry about other people’s grass, it stops you from watering your grass.  Love the life you have.

3. Listen To Your Gut–  Intuition is like a muscle. The more we use our intuition, the stronger it becomes. Trust yourself and the choices you make. If you are unsure, wait. Give yourself time to reflect.

4. Trust Your Journey-Faith isn’t always easy because it is unseen. However, stand strong and trust your journey.

5. Prayer Works- Point blank period.

6. Embrace Change-Pain comes from trying to be in control. Let go and embrace change. The only constant thing in life is change. Yes, change is uncomfortable, yet necessary to grow.

7. Know Who You Are-Who are you? Remove titles and relationship status (example: supervisor, wife, dad, etc).

8.  Enjoy The Journey– Don’t waste time stressing about tomorrow. Yes, you have to prepare for the future, but enjoy today. Make a commitment to do your BEST each day and forgive yourself for everything in between.

9. The Habits You Create Determine The Quality Of Your Life– Changing my Habits; Changed My Life. I started making Healthier choices, which became Healthier Habits.  My healthier habits have became a healthier lifestyle.
