One habit at a time! Simply Start.

On January 1, 2018 (Here we are 2-year later) I committed to creating the habit of journaling each morning in Habits & Lifestyles open Facebook group for 3-minutes per day.

Low and behold, I have been successful with creating my journaling habit.

As we embark on a “new normal”, I want to commit creating a place for people to access the monthly journal questions.

Each month habits and lifestyles focuses on one of our 7-lifestyle areas; which includes:

One habit at a time!

It’s been a lifetime since I have created a blog entry. Writing blogs aren’t my favorite. However, blogs have importance, relevance, and a place in our society.

On January 1, 2018 (Here we are almost 2-year later) I committed to creating the habit of journaling each morning in Habits & Lifestyles closed Facebook group for 3-minutes per day (videos can also be found on YouTube and Pinterest).

Collaboration Because…Why Not?

I must admit when I started supporting people as a Professional Accountability Partner in January, I wasn’t 100% sure of how the program would look. I knew two things. One, I’d used Habits & Lifestyles 6-effective steps to Create The Life I wanted over the past 4-years. Two, I knew I wanted to work with other women; game changers.

Six or so years ago I started listening to a Pastor by the name of Keith Battle of Zion Church. I started watching his YouTube videos and then I started listening to his services online. While on Zion’s website, I noticed they had small online groups. I tried to join one, but apparently it wasn’t the right time. Later that year I tried to join another group and the rest is history.

While in this online group I met an amazing group of women who supported, encouraged, and loved each other. Of course, the next step was to visit the church (located in Maryland) and meet the women in person. While in Maryland I had the opportunity to meet Diamond McBride. She was the  guest speaker at our women’s retreat.

I enjoyed listening to her story, her love for life and goal setting. She’d climbed the corporate ladder through hard work.  Listening to her speak gave me a sneak peek inside her heart. She was passionate about her work. After she finished speaking to us, she gave us gifts; sticky notes, mugs, pens, paper clips, etc. I was inspired. At the time I was in the process of getting Habits & Lifestyles off the ground and office supplies were always welcomed. Before she left, we connected on Facebook and said our “good-bye for now.”

I flew back to Arizona and continue with life. However, now that we were Facebook friends, I was able to follow Diamond’s professional and personal accomplishments.

Fast forward to the end of 2018.  I had received several encouraging words from friends and other women I coached in the past. I told myself I would start supporting women again on January 28, 2019. I have valuable information I want to share with the world. Nevertheless, I knew other women were full of knowledge that needed to be shared as well. I remembered the woman I met in Maryland. I reached out to Diamond and asked her if she’d be interested in facilitating a session in Habits & Lifestyles: 56-Day Jump Start Program. I’d asked her to focus on Step 2: Create the healthier habit:

Diamond’s business aligns perfectly with Habits & Lifestyles. Her curriculum covers the importance of schedules and routines. I was so impressed while listening to her speak, that I had to stop and take notes for myself. While facilitating she addressed issues my clients faced (I didn’t tell her). Diamond is called to help others and share her knowledge.

We had the pleasure to include Diamond in our first online session. It’s an honor to add her to the program as a permanent facilitator.

Habits & Lifestyles: 6-Effective Steps

There are countless number of books that provide tips about the habits needed to be effective or to understand the benefits of “good” habits.
However, there aren’t many, if any books written to guide you on how to create and maintain healthier habits.
Habits & Lifestyles has created an effective 6-Step Formula to support you in creating and maintaining healthier habits.
The 6-steps include: awareness, creating, tracking, measuring, adjusting, and getting “unstuck!”
Each step has a specific purpose. Each step has been tried, tested, and proven to be successful. 
Use the 6-Steps to advocate for yourself by; being consistent, being dedicated,  and showing up for yourself!

Below is a breakdown of Habits & Lifestyles effective formula. 
1. Awareness: Awareness of self and current habits
2. Create: Create a new healthier habit
3. Track: Track your new healthier habit
4. Measure: Measure your new healthier habit 
5. Adjust: Adjust your new healthier habi
6. Getting “unstuck!”: Prepare for difficulties

 

Step 1: Become Aware of Self. Before we begin our journey of creating and maintain healthier habits. We must become aware of self, current  habits, patterns, and beliefs.

Step 2: Create The Healthier Habit. Create a small healthier instigative habit that leads to an execution habit ,and then incorporate the new healthier habit into your daily regimen (regimental habits).

Step 3: Track Your Healthier Habits.Tracking is an important tool used by businesses, schools, and individuals to achieve goals. Habits & Lifestyles uses tracking to support creating and maintaining healthier habits.

Step 4: Measure Your Healthier Habits. Weighing scales measure your weight, rulers measure length, and tailor’s measuring tape is used to to measure their clients. It is important that we measure our effort on a                                                                              scale of 1-10.

Step 5: Adjust Your Healthier Habits. We humans take the path of least resistance which means if something is too hard, we might quit before we start. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if something is too easy we might not feel challenged. Therefore, it is import to adjust as needed.

Step 6: Get “Unstuck”. One way to take actions over your life is to be proactive. Prepare for the tough times, because they will happen. However, Habits & Lifestyles last step; Step 6 will support you on your journey.

The great thing about Habits & Lifestyles 6-Step Formula is its ability to become a “system” for most situations.

Example: First day at a new job!

Step 1: Become Aware. What is your role at your new company? What is the role of your peers and superiors? What are the companies need? Become aware!

Step 2: Create. Create individual and team goals. Create daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals.

Step 3: Track. Track your individual and teams goals by using one of the following methods; an app, whiteboard, Google drive, or journal.

Step 4: Measure. Measure you and your team’s effectiveness, effort, productivity, and outcomes.

Step 5: Adjust. If things aren’t adding up, adjust your goals.

Step 6: Get “Unstuck”. Create a list of things you will do when things are tough at work. When goals aren’t being accomplished. When your team members aren’t being team players. Be proactive about setbacks in your new career.

The Missing Link: Habits

How are habits, goals, and journaling similar?

We create SYSTEMS that lead us closer to our goals. Those systems may include; timelines, mind maps, and check-list.

The systems mentioned above are great and effective. However, we often overlook the POWER of our HABITS.

Habits are things we do each day. Habits are automatic. If something is automatic, our brains use less energy to execute the task at hand. After all, habits are psychological NOT physical.

While in the process of creating and achieving goals, check your daily habits. Your daily habits should support your goals.
