The concept or “romanticized” notion of self-care would lead one to believe that manicures, pedicures, and hot baths are the answer! #incorrect

Self-care is about self-love and self-worth. How??

are important, but not everyone has access to this type of support. Friends grow apart (or don’t have space to care for themselves and you) and you can’t always rely on family.

My self-care routine is everything, but

GLAMOROUS! Actually, it’s hard and overwhelming at times.

My self-care requires a lot of soul searching, standing alone, waking up at the same time EVERYDAY and going to bed early (Mon-Sun).

My self-care routine includes; daily workouts, journaling, prayer, saying no to toxic relationships (men/women), spending time alone, spending time with God, cooking “healthier” foods, creating a daily schedule (the night before), washing a little each day

immediately putting my clothes away), watering plants, vacuuming, organizing, purging, drinking water, saying no to wine as a form of relaxation, saying no to “in the moment” wants, being intentional about my time with my children (putting my phone down. Listening, laughing, and asking questions), hanging with people and keeping commitments (as best as I can), and showing up for myself EVERYDAY, day after day!

My self-care

requires a crap load of #WorthItWork

My self-care routine is full of habits. My habits are my systems. My systems keep me moving forward and balanced. Even when I’m afraid, unsure, tired, and confused.

38-years of living has taught me:

It’s been a lifetime since I have created a blog entry. Writing blogs aren’t my favorite. However, blogs have importance, relevance, and a place in our society.

On January 1, 2018 (Here we are 1-year later) I committed to creating the habit of journaling each morning in Habits & Lifestyles closed Facebook group for 3-minutes per day (videos can also be found on YouTube and Pinterest).

Low and behold, I have been successful with creating my journaling habit.

There are countless number of books that provide tips about the habits needed to be effective or to understand the benefits of “good” habits.
However, there aren’t many, if any books written to guide you on how to create and maintain healthier habits.
Habits & Lifestyles has created an effective 6-Step Formula to support you in creating and maintaining healthier habits.
The 6-steps include: awareness, creating, tracking, measuring, adjusting, and getting “unstuck!”
Each step has a specific purpose. Each step has been tried, tested, and proven to be successful. 
Use the 6-Steps to advocate for yourself by; being consistent, being dedicated,  and showing up for yourself!

Below is a breakdown of Habits & Lifestyles effective formula. 
1. Awareness: Awareness of self and current habits
2. Create: Create a new healthier habit
3. Track: Track your new healthier habit
4. Measure: Measure your new healthier habit 
5. Adjust: Adjust your new healthier habi
6. Getting “unstuck!”: Prepare for difficulties

 

Step 1: Become Aware of Self. Before we begin our journey of creating and maintain healthier habits. We must become aware of self, current  habits, patterns, and beliefs.

Step 2: Create The Healthier Habit. Create a small healthier instigative habit that leads to an execution habit ,and then incorporate the new healthier habit into your daily regimen (regimental habits).

Step 3: Track Your Healthier Habits.Tracking is an important tool used by businesses, schools, and individuals to achieve goals. Habits & Lifestyles uses tracking to support creating and maintaining healthier habits.

Step 4: Measure Your Healthier Habits. Weighing scales measure your weight, rulers measure length, and tailor’s measuring tape is used to to measure their clients. It is important that we measure our effort on a                                                                              scale of 1-10.

Step 5: Adjust Your Healthier Habits. We humans take the path of least resistance which means if something is too hard, we might quit before we start. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if something is too easy we might not feel challenged. Therefore, it is import to adjust as needed.

Step 6: Get “Unstuck”. One way to take actions over your life is to be proactive. Prepare for the tough times, because they will happen. However, Habits & Lifestyles last step; Step 6 will support you on your journey.

The great thing about Habits & Lifestyles 6-Step Formula is its ability to become a “system” for most situations.

Example: First day at a new job!

Step 1: Become Aware. What is your role at your new company? What is the role of your peers and superiors? What are the companies need? Become aware!

Step 2: Create. Create individual and team goals. Create daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals.

Step 3: Track. Track your individual and teams goals by using one of the following methods; an app, whiteboard, Google drive, or journal.

Step 4: Measure. Measure you and your team’s effectiveness, effort, productivity, and outcomes.

Step 5: Adjust. If things aren’t adding up, adjust your goals.

Step 6: Get “Unstuck”. Create a list of things you will do when things are tough at work. When goals aren’t being accomplished. When your team members aren’t being team players. Be proactive about setbacks in your new career.

Regimental Habits Have Benefits! A Candid Conversation Between Girlfriends

One day, I am at work  and I received a text from a friend. It read, “Hey girl, I thought I’d share how including habits into my daily routine and your business concept has helped me!

Umm, okay. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I created Habits & Lifestyles to support me in self-love, healing, and Creating The Life I Want.

I didn’t realize the effects my childhood abuse had on me, until I grew older. I was a “functioning victim!” I was able to marry and parent my children. However, I wasn’t healthy.

I lacked emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, nutritional, and relationship intelligence. I lacked all 3 of the “selfs”. I didn’t have self-esteem, self-worth, or self-confidence.

Although, I had a “fairy-tale” marriage, my personal lacks could not be  filled by another person. Eventually my marriage failed.

After my divorce I jumped into school, “parenting,” and partying. Parenting is in parentheses because I am sure I could have been a better parent if I loved me. I religiously went to school for 10 years; earning a Master’s Degree and currently 2 classes away from completing my second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I thought partying and filling my time with meaningless relationships would fill the void. Needless to say, they didn’t. 

One day, I decided enough was enough. I needed healing, wholeness, and all 3 of the “selfs”; self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. I sat on my bed and thought about successful people. What did they do differently? They made sacrifices, committed, believe in self, and created daily habits that aligned with their goals.

In that moment, I knew my habits would be key to Creating The Life I Wanted. It wasn’t enough for me to create habits. I needed to be intentional and I created healthier habits in 5-lifestyle areas. The lifestyles areas were; faith, physical, nutrition, financial, and relationships. As Habits & Lifestyles progressed I added two additional lifestyle areas; travel and pleasure (balance) for a total of 7-lifestyle areas.

After I created healthier habits for myself, I began to share my knowledge with friends. I shared small things such as; start a journal, go to bed earlier, wake-up earlier, spend quality time with God and self. When I first started my business, a few friends applied my tips and some allowed me to coach them . The end results were priceless.

My TIP to you as you venture on your journey of creating and maintaining healthier habits is, everything start with awareness. Habits are psychological NOT physical.

Creating a habit involves doing the same thing each day; preferably at the same time and location. I know, it sounds tedious. However, it can be done!
